The NorthStar Youth Hockey League offers multiple Mite divisions of play based team ability with league parity adjustments held twice during the season.

2024-25 Mite Division
· (26) Games - (25) Regular Season & minimum (1) Playoff Game
· All Games will be Half Ice Format. ***All Games played at NorthStar Ice Sports
· Games played on Saturday’s (7:00 am – 12:00 pm) anticipated game times.
· All teams will play minimum of (1) Half Ice Playoff Game (single elimination).
· Approximately 30-week season (September – April).
· Divisions of play based on team placement and subject to regular league parity adjustments if needed.
· Half Ice Games = (2) 25 minute running time periods.
· Intermediate sized nets will be used for all games.
· (2) Two Referees per session with (1) One referee per half ice game.
· Game scores will be recorded and standings will be maintained for the Mite division.
· Half Ice game scores will be verified and signed off on at the conclusion of each game by each team’s coach.
2024-25 Mite Development
· (23) Games – (22) Regular Season & minimum (1) Playoff Game
· All Games will be Half Ice Format. ***All Games played at NorthStar Ice Sports
· Games will be played Sunday’s (7:00 am – 12:00 pm) anticipated game times.
· All teams will play minimum of (1) Half Ice Playoff Game (single elimination).
· Approximately 26-week season (starting mid-late September – mid March).
· Divisions of play based on team placement and subject to regular league parity adjustments if needed.
· Half Ice Games = (2) 25-minute running time periods.
· Intermediate sized nets will be used for all games.
· No Referees: coaches will regulate play during regular season. (1) One referee per half ice playoff game.
· Game scores will be recorded, and standings will be maintained for the Mite Development division.
· Half Ice game scores will be verified and signed off on at the conclusion of each game by each team’s coach.
2024-2025 PLAYING RULES
ABOUT THE LEAGUE
The NorthStar Youth Hockey League (formally the American Youth Hockey League) was formed in the late 1970’s to offer local youth hockey players the opportunity to play in a competitive league that’s conveniently located close to home as all games are played at NorthStar Ice Sports. The NYHL offers multiple divisions of play based on team ability with league parity adjustments held twice during the season. All Players, Coaches & Teams must be registered with USA Hockey to participate and the current USA Hockey Rule Book will guide all playing rules.
SEASON
The NYHL spans 28 weeks from September through March with playoffs to follow. League games are typically played over the weekends but the league does utilize many of the school vacation weeks and holidays to schedule games.
All Mite and Mite Development teams will qualify for the playoffs which is a single elimination format
(1 game minimum). Both divisions follow the USA Hockey ADM guidelines.
